September 2009

As we begin this tenth year of the Leadership Institute, it is an exciting time. We have a great new group of women as part of our 2009-10 class and are preparing for a really good "continuing education" session in November topped off with a special celebration of the accomplishments of all of those who are graduates of the leadership program.

Wanting to keep up with ever changing times and new challenges, the board, class representatives and committee members participated in a retreat in August to completely review the Institute's recruitment, programming, continued participation from all of our Institute members, application process and social activities. Some really good suggestions emerged from the retreat and you will be hearing about some of the things planned to respond to these changing times and new challenges.

I look forward to welcoming the new class this week and to seeing all of you in November.

Jo Ann

It's been a busy time for the Institute and its members, as we prepare for our 10th class. How wonderful it is to write those words--10 years of trying to help women achieve their
goals. Amazing! It has been a rewarding journey.

This week the class begins and we do our kick off picnic. The Board has worked hard over the summer to ensure this year's program is a quality one. The board and members of the Membership Committee did an Institute retreat to update our program-to keep it fresh and relevant. It was a great success and we hope that the class and the Institute see the fruits of our labors.

This year is a pivotal year in many ways. The Institute has its first legislative leader in Cheryl Grossman - the new House Assistant Whip. We have members running for Congress, for state representative as well as for local offices. The members' willingness to step out into new arenas underscores how important the Institute's mission is. Win, or lose, the membership is exploring new horizons.

We will continue working to help all of you. We look forward to seeing you at the 10th Anniversary Celebration this November!

Betty

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY
Shortly you will be receiving a notice on how to access the membership directory.  You will receive the password to access your own information, which we expect you to update as changes in phone numbers, addresses or jobs occur.  This gives you full control of your information.  We urge you to keep it updated, as we all will be using it.  Remember, up to date information also helps those of us using this directory to make recommendations for job openings, boards, commissions, and other political positions or appointments.

INFORMATION SHARING POLICY
It is Institute Board policy that this directory is not to be made available to non-members.  Some members want this information kept within the Institute only and we want to respect this.  Let’s make this a living, working document and, at the same time, respect its confidentiality.

USE OF INSTITUTE NAME
On a similar note, it is important that all members be aware of the following board policy as it protects the Institute and its members.  In this age where privacy is shrinking, it is important to be certain that things said in seemingly protected places are not attributed to the Institute itself.

THE USE OF THE NAME OF "THE JO ANN DAVIDSON OHIO LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE" IS PERMITTED ONLY WITH INSTITUTE BOARD PERMISSION.  THUS, NO WEB SITES, SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES, PUBLICATIONS, OR COMMUNICATIONS MAY USE THE INSTITUTE'S NAME WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF THE INSTITUTE.  COMMUNICATIONS BY COMMITTEES WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE MEMBERS REGARDING INSTITUTE BUSINESS IS EXCLUDED FROM THIS PROHIBITION.

Sharon Gingerich - County Once Approved of Indentured Servitude By GLEN MILLER -
Geauga County Recorder Sharon Gingerich believes history should be read and seen, not kept on a bookshelf in some dusty, out of the way place. That's why she dug out some nearly century-old recorder's documents to be displayed during her July 31 open house to celebrate the 214th anniversary of the county recorder's office.
