March 2012

While we have all been aware that Ohio will play a key role in this year’s presidential election, I think we are surprised that we are also turning out to be a key state in the presidential nomination process. The statewide contenders are all organizing the leadership of their statewide and county campaigns in Ohio. If you have an interest in being involved in one of those campaigns, please let us know and we will be sure that your contact information is referred to the appropriate individuals.

The US Senate race in Ohio between our own Josh Mandel and Senator Sherrod Brown is also on the key list of Senate races which provide the Republicans with the opportunity to win a majority in the United States Senate.

Hopefully many of you, in addition to the presidential and US Senate race, as well as your own race or those in your county in which you are involved, you will want to help in the Ohio congressional, House and Senate races.  As we know, even though there are so many ways to reach voters thru the media, social media, direct mail, calls, internet ads etc., one of the key factors in Republican's ability to win in our state is the strength of the grassroots effort. To make that effort be successful takes dedicated volunteers.

Campaigns are challenging, exhausting, exhilarating and learning opportunities. The Institute is about strengthening our members’ leadership skills.  Campaigns help us to do that. I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail.

Jo Ann

Greetings!

Well, the election is well upon us and tomorrow’s primary will settle some tough local and district elections. We have members who are running in difficult races and we have been so proud to hear how so many of you have helped each other. You may have noted that we have encouraged people to post political events for presidential candidates on our private Facebook account. We show no preferences and hope all of you get behind the candidate of YOUR choice. The Facebook account is to be used, among other things, as a bulletin board for these presidential candidate events, as well as local and state candidates.

Speaking of our Facebook account…let me remind you all of a few of the things we have talked about in our classes:  the things you say on Facebook reflect on you as an individual and on the Institute. Remember, although this is a private page....nothing is truly private and we want to ensure that neither the Institute or you as members have your words thrown back at you in a campaign, newspaper article, etc.

Additionally, and this is a very important part of who we are as an Institute, we are a large and diverse group - there are many different opinions held by our members. Let's be sure we respect this diversity of opinion. This makes us a stronger organization and reflects well on our professionalism.

Enough of the dangers of social media. Our classes are going well and we are fast approaching yet another graduation. Thank you to all who have engaged in this sometimes difficult election process.  Good luck on the primary election and, now, on to November and electing Republicans from the courthouse to the statehouse to the Whitehouse!

Betty

COMING SOON TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

In its November Board meeting, the Institute Board approved the scheduling of three regional meetings around the state.  In an effort to reach out to our members where they live, and to also enhance our recruitment efforts, we will be setting up three receptions during the first half of this year.  Our first one, held in the Dayton area, was a real success and gave our members a chance to socialize with other members in their area and brought us some new recruits at the same time. Stay tuned!
